This new-build home, situated on the edge of a historic village within the South Downs National Park, draws inspiration from the rich Tudor heritage that defines the local vernacular. Surrounded by rolling countryside and timber-framed dwellings, the house responds sensitively to its setting through a contemporary reinterpretation of traditional architectural language.
The design takes cues from the rhythm and proportion of nearby Tudor buildings, expressed through a series of articulated gables, exposed timber detailing, and a careful balance of solid and void. Rather than replicate the past, the project seeks to echo its spirit—recasting familiar forms and materials in a modern context. Timber cladding, crisp brickwork, and large glazed openings are combined to create a home that feels both rooted and forward-looking.
Internally, the layout prioritises natural light and visual connections to the landscape, with open-plan living spaces and framed views towards the Downs. Sustainability and longevity were key drivers, with a focus on local materials and low-energy design principles.
