Ground Floor Extension – Winchester

Planning Approval granted for a modern ground floor extension on this challenging site within the Winchester city centre Conservation Area. The extension was carefully considered and designed to be sensitive to the existing dwelling. The proposed new space provides the family with an open plan kitchen living space that opens out onto a new level terrace area creating a seamless level transition between inside and out.

A fully glazed pop-out orial window provides a contemporary architectural feature that doubles up as seating internally.

Extensive site analysis, knowledge of local planning policy, and a rigorous design approach meant the application was approved straight away by Winchester Planning and Conservation Officers.

We used 3D visuals and animations to explain the design to the client prior to submission for planning. The works are due to start on site in early 2019.

Client Feedback:

“As our house is in a conservation area and of a rather unusual design we didn’t expect obtaining planning permission for a new extension to be easy, particularly as we wanted it to be of a modern design. Alex met us at our home, listened to our brief, and within a few days presented us with a number of options, all of which we’d have been very happy with. Once the design was agreed the plans were submitted and Alex liaised closely with the planning authority. To our surprise, and delight, the plans were approved quickly and without alteration. A brilliant result and quite a feat in our area.During the process we found Alex’s communication and attention to detail extremely good and would not hesitate to use him in the future.”
